Development of territorial planning and the urbanization of territories in the Russian Federation pose technological challenges in the sector of wastewater treatment for the neutralization and further utilization of heterogeneous waste (sewage sludge) as one of the most acute issues of environmental safety. An important factor for the implementation of strategic development in the conditions of modern fierce competition is to consider and develop domestic technological developments.

In the article, based on the patent literature, an analysis is given of technical solutions on how to extract heavy metals from activated sludge and sewage sludge.
