The article objective is to systematize data on the problem of steroid changes in the genital skin based on literature and own clinical observations. Topical corticosteroids (tCSs) are widely used in various clinical situations. Disturbance of the tCSs application regimens can lead to a number of side effects, and withdrawals — to the tCSs withdrawal syndrome (TCWS). The information about clinical manifestations of TCWS in genital localization is insufficient, which makes it difficult to recognize such clinical manifestations by doctors. A description of the forms of steroid balanoposthitis is presented based on an analysis of the literature data on clinical manifestations of TCWS with extragenital localization and own data in patients with TCWS on the skin of the glans penis and prepuce. Approaches to diagnosis, including both clinical evaluation and assessment of the preputial sheath microbiocenosis, as well as approaches to TCWS treatment in genital localization of such process in men are described. It is advisable to use in the treatment of steroidal balanoposthitis cooling methods that include soaking therapy, while the administration of topical calcineurin inhibitors is poorly tolerated by patients due to the burning occurrence. Detection of anaerobic microflora in the preputial sheath and administration of antianaerobic drugs contribute to achievement of therapeutic results. © 2025, Media Sphera Publishing Group.
