N2 - Coal remains one of the most important energy sources in the world, providing a significant part of electricity and industrial production. Due to geopolitical instability, active sanctions policy, the transition to clean sources and the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the issue of the future of the coal industry is becoming increasingly important. Sustainable development of this sector of the economy involves a balance between economic benefits, environmental responsibility and social stability. Objective of the study: to analyze the sustainable development practices of large Russian coal mining companies to identify the impact of sanctions on them. The results of the study show that companies that published non-financial reports focus primarily on SDGs 3, 8, 13, 15 (health, work, climate, ecology), which is associated with the specifics of the relevant economic sector and business risks inherent in coal mining enterprises. Sanctions have negatively affected the processes of integrating the sustainable development practices of the largest coal mining companies into corporate strategies and policies, but the companies generally follow global sustainable development trends, despite the difficult and contradictory stage of modern development.
