Based on comparison of the Leningrad Region maps showing (1) the geocomplexes' types and (2) the elementary landforms characterized by a definite aspect and a prescribed angle of slope, and according to analysis of the satellite observations made by MODIS equipment at the beginning of autumn 2004, there presented: (a) the burning sites' density and the GIS-produced statistics of photometric charactenistics (b) NDVI and (c) EVI for the mapped items. Correlation relationships are evaluated between indexes (a)-(c) for the two versions of zoning, (1) and (2). The geocomplex zoning map seems to be worse for the purpose of modeling. Conclusions are made about applicability of the photometric characteristics to monitor and/or foresee areas to burn. Necessary requirements are fonnulated for the use of satellite observations in monitoring geosystem inflammability.
