N2 - Solariella obscura (Couthouy, 1838) is a highly variable species, widely distributed in the seas of the Northern Hemisphere. We tested whether the forms (varieties) of S. obscura, recognized by shell sculpture, differ by shape-depended conchological characters using principal component analysis and discriminant function analysis. We also tested differences between Atlantic and Pacific representatives of the species. A total of nine samples (265 specimens) from the Barents, the Kara and the Bering seas were measured by seven conchological parameters. Varieties of S. obscura did not differ significantly in studied characters. It conforms to morphological data of radula and stomach.
