In the 21st century, Latin America and the Caribbean have become one of the key regions for Russia to expand its influence and strengthen the 'multipolar' world. This Kremlin policy is not a simple reproduction of the Soviet model and contains several new features. However, after the strong blow to the existing world order by the use of Russian military forces against Ukraine, Russia-LAC relations suffered a significant impact and changed Moscow's perspectives. The article analyses the main features of Russian policy towards LAC countries with a special focus on the changes that resulted from the start of the war. Among other things, the object of study is to understand whether the type of relationship exercised by the Kremlin meant or means at some point an intergovernmental alliance of left-wing political forces. © 2024 Ariadna Ediciones.
