The local approximation applicability is analyzed for the wide range of pressures(1-100 Torr). It is shown that the local approximation is not useful at the discharge periphery even at high pressures up to 100 Torr. Moreover, it is shown that the local electron density function (EDF) tail cannot be used for the calculation of ionization and excitation rate constants at low pressures.
