N2 - This work reports on the synthesis and optoelectronic properties of the crystalline phases [Pb 2 Br 5 ][C 6 NH 8 ] and [PbBr 3 ][C 6 NH 8 ] of 2-methylpyridinium lead bromide. This work reports on the synthesis and optoelectronic properties of the crystalline phases [Pb 2 Br 5 ][C 6 NH 8 ] and [PbBr 3 ][C 6 NH 8 ] of 2-methylpyridinium lead bromide. Their synthesis is achieved through varying reactant concentrations. The first phase is an organometal compound with a corrugated quasi 2D structure, while the second one is a 1D hybrid structure. Optical bandgaps of the compounds are ~3.4 eV and match the results of DFT calculations. Whereas their photoluminescence (PL) excitation spectra are nearly identical, the corresponding PL emission spectra are different and show maxima at 2.22 eV and 2.84 eV for [Pb 2 Br 5 ][C 6 NH 8 ] and [PbBr 3 ][C 6 NH 8 ], respectively. The comparison of the experimental and theoretical results suggests an existence of radiationless electronic transitions from the inorganic subsystem onto the π-electron system of 2-methylpyridinium cation.
