Satellite bands accompanying the C [Formula presented] photoline for the [Formula presented] molecule parallel to the electric vector of the incident radiation [Formula presented] are found to be more intense than those for [Formula presented] perpendicular to [Formula presented] in the shape resonance region. This indicates that multielectron excitations are caused in part by the interaction of the outgoing C [Formula presented] photoelectron with the valence electrons. The photoelectron-impact valence excitations couple with the C [Formula presented] single-hole ionization and distort the shape resonance significantly. We assign the broad resonance at [Formula presented] to a distorted [Formula presented] shape resonance.
