The current paper reveals the necessity for developing university students' critical thinking in Italian for specific purposes through authentic materials. The authors examine the benefits for applying problem-based learning that could facilitate the development of critical thinking. Activities aimed at developing critical thinking, skills for intensive reading, and applying critical thinking in new professional settings are presented.
