The main purpose of the article is to define and consider strategic barriers to the management of sustainable development of the modern economies, firms and projects (EFP) in the conditions of global economic crisis threat. In the article strategic barriers to management of EFP sustainable development are revealed and defined. A number of approaches to the concept of sustainable development are critically considered and the new approach from the positions of generalized criterion of viability preservation of the firm is offered. New concept of economical EFP viability is proposed as the major way of overcoming and preventing current and future crises.
