Results are presented for the daily mean values of total methane content (ωCH4 ) from spectra of direct solar radiation, measured in the IR region during 1991-1993. Seasonal variations of ωCH4 are revealed. These variations are characterized by a pronounced maximum in the fall-winter period, a minimum in summer, and an amplitude of about 10% of the average value (over the entire period of measurements) (ωCH4 = 1.39 atm cm). On the basis of the measured spectra, it is suggested that, at the point of spectral measurements in the fall-winter period, there may exist an inhomogeneity of the methane vertical distribution due to the influence of industry. A comparison of the obtained results with similar measurements during the same period of time in Zvenigorod and Obninsk demonstrates significant disagreement between the values and variations of the total methane content observed at all three sites.
