N2 - The existence of states in the excitation spectra of nuclei with anomalously large values of the parameter X is explained in the framework of a model with self-consistent pairing. The possibility of an experimental investigation of nuclear monopole states which are excited in the bound mu --meson decay in a muonic atom is discussed.
