The paper presents the results of a research project conducted in January 2017 among the members of a few Facebook and Quora groups dedicated to Scottish culture. The research aimed at exploring public awareness and perception of the so called traditional Scottish child naming patterns and identifying the socio-cultural factors that influence naming practices in modern-day Scotland. After the traditional Scottish onomastic patterns had been identified and the Scottish naming pool defined, the findings of the online survey were analysed and juxtaposed
to the official statistics. The research project results confirm that there is evidence of the ongoing reinventing of the Scottish naming traditions.
