The case of the Russian-Polish reconciliation is remarkable for a number of reasons. During the shared socialist period of their history, no controversial issues of mutual relations ever surfaced in their official agendas. Controversies were either hushed, or distorted by their propagandas. It was only much later that some historic issues acquired poignancy, attracting much public attention. The conditions and opportunities for dialogue and reconciliation between Poland and Russia came about only in the early 1990s.
