1. The reactions of all of the neurons recorded in the region of the lateral sigmoid gyrus were associated with the performance of a rapid movement of seizing the visual goal; the reactions of the majority of neurons preceded this movement by 80-100 msec. In 20 neurons, we noted a sensory component of the reaction connected directly with the moment the target appeared rather than with the movement itself. 2. The reactions of the majority of the neurons studied were independent of the duration the visual target was exposed for. The discharge pattern formed during the process of training the animal. 3. Changes in activity depending upon the presence or absence of the reinforcement were not observed in a portion of the neurons. Five neurons did not respond or change their activity during unsuccessful grasps at the reinforcement. 4. Twenty neurons changed activity only during performance or reinforcement of the motor response with a probability of 0.5. Such changes were expressed in a restructuring of the discharge pattern characteristic of the given type of movement.
