N2 - The intensities of the spectral lines of the 3s-4p transitions of the atom in the afterglow of a dc discharge were investigated at electron temperatures T//e equals 500-2500 K and at pressure p equals 15-30 torr. It is shown that the population of the levels of the 2p**54p configuration in the afterglow is due to dissociative recombination of Ne** plus molecular ions. At low T//e(T//e APP 1STH 1000 K), an increasing dependence of the recombination flux on the electron temperature was observed on those levels of the 4p group which lie above the ground vibrational state of the molecular ions. Vibrational relaxation of the Ne** plus //2 molecular ion upon collision with the neon atoms is invoked to explain the dependences of the line intensities on the density of the normal atoms.
