N2 - This article is about Leningrad school of historians of the Revolution of 1917, that was formed in early 1960s in Leningrad branch of History Institute of USSR Academy of Sciences and was converned with sector "History of Soviet Society" (Yu. S. Tokarev, V. I. Startzev, O. N. Znamenskiy and G. L. Sobolev worked there). G. L. Sobolev is author of more than 300 scientific publications on various problems of Russian history, but especially on Russian Revolution of 1917. He is the author of "Revolutionary consciousness of the workers and soldiers in Petrograd in 1917", "The October Revolution in American historiography, 1917-1970s", "The Petrograd garrison in the struggle for the victory of October", "The proletarian vanguard in 1917", etc. In the 2000s G. L. Sobolev published two monographs devoted to the problem of the "German gold" as an external factor that influenced the course of the revolution - "Secret" German gold and secret allies. The Russian Revolution and Germany. 1914-1918". Over the years G. L. Sobolev unites around him historians that study history of Russian wars and revolutions of the XXth century. Today, his students, many of whom became candidates and doctors of History, continue the traditions of studying political, economic and social aspects of the revolutionary process in Russia.
