We propose a method for computing the electric field intensity at the points of a multitip field cathode consisting of thin axially symmetric tips. We determine the optimal distance between tips of the structure for preset tip parameters (e.g., height, radius of curvature, etc.). We show that the optimum distance depends on the operating point of the field cathode (i.e., on the voltage applied to the anode-autocathode gap).
