Since the current theory of the strength of solids is based on the study of crack behavior, the consideration of failure processes is preceded by the analysis of the surface characteristics of a crack such as disjoining pressure and thermodynamic surface and linear tensions. The dependence of linear tension on the curvature radius of the crack frontal line is calculated as applied to different mechanisms of the crack growth using dispersion forces as an example.
