Analysis is conducted of the asteroid Apophis' approaches to the Earth on potential collision trajectories. Close approaches, especially in 2051, allow the use of the gravity assist effect to deflect the asteroid at small energy costs. Estimates are obtained for the change in Apophis' velocity after 2029, which are required to divert the object and avoid its main possible collisions with the Earth.
