Generation of squeezed states of light in the propagation of a laser wave in a thin waveguide without cladding placed in a resonant environment is discussed. Requirements on the optical layout and the natural linewidth of laser radiation necessary for the observation of self-phase modulation (squeezing) of coherent radiation in a resonant nonlinear medium are analyzed.
