Results are presented of studies concerning the characteristics of a pulse-modulated low-pressure discharge plasma in a mercury-argon mixture. It is shown that in the conditions of the discharge current modulation it is possible to enhance plasma luminous efficacy. Luminous efficacy measurements of the standard fluorescent lamp type LD 20 when supplied by a pulse current have shown the efficacy to increase by 20-30% as compared with that of the dc lamp.
