Direct vinylation of lactams with calcium carbide was proposed under super-basic conditions. The vinylation occurred well at NH function, saving CO function without changes. A series of cyclic N vinyl amides was isolated in good yields up to 97%. Obtained products are perspective monomers for synthetic peptide synthesis.
