The contributors to the work of formation of droplets which are in equilibrium and not in equilibrium with the vapor, as well as the chemical potential, enthalpy, and entropy of the molecules in a droplet, due to dielectric saturation and electrostriction of the droplet liquid in the strong field of a charged nucleus have been found. The role of these contributions, as well as the dimensions of the ions, in the thermodynamics of condensation on ions, has been investigated. The parameters of a droplet which determine the effects of electrostriction and dielectric saturation have been evaluated by means of comparison with experimental data on the dielectric constants of liquids in strong electric fields.
