The work reconstructs psychological portrait of Nicholas I and events influenced the formation of his personality. The author criticizes many of the existing stereotypes of Nicholas I perception. The attention is given to main bibliography of question. So positive and negative traits of the autocrat, which inevitably had an impact on "scenario of power", the politics and the ideology of kingship, are considered in the article without undue idealization.
