This paper considers certain problems in this field, particularly the chemical composition of the sulfide minerals, some of which have never before been found in the ore-bearing ooze of the basin, or were previously unknown as natural compounds. The description of the ore-bearing ooze in the Atlantis-II Deep in the Red Sea is based on material collected by G.A. Cherkashev in 1983 and 1984. Also used were sulfide-bearing ooze samples from core 127-P. Study methods and results are discussed. It was found that ore-bearing ooze in the Atlantis-II deep contains many iron-copper sulfides that correspond to high-temperature phases in the system Cu-Fe-S. Their formation agrees well with the data of A.S. Monin, V. Grinenko and Ustinov, who estimate that temperatures of hydrothermal solutions discharged here range from 300° to 400°C.
