N1 - The article "The Literary Code of Culture in the Phraseology of the Romance Languages" is devoted to the problem of intertextuality and the analysis of precedent phenomena associated with the literary texts of the Romance languages (Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese), the names of their authors and actors, as well as quotations from various literary works and allusions to precedent situations that are directly or indirectly reflected in phraseological units that form the cultural and literary codes of the languages under consideration. V.Teliya, the founder of Russian linguoculturology, formulated its basic concepts, such as cultural text, cultural code, linguocultural competence, cultural connotation, thesaurus of culture, symbolarium of culture. The basis for this linguoculturological analysis are phraseological units associated with the masterpieces of Cervantes, Lope de Vega, Corneille, Proust, Dante Alighieri, Manzoni, Collodi, Camões, Queiroz and others. The study was conducted on the basis of phraseological dictionaries of 4 Romance languages (Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese) and examples of the use of phraseological units in journalistic discourse and in colloquial speech. The results of the study showed that such phraseological units are widely used in Romance languages in order to increase expressiveness, acquire new connotations or new meanings that retain a certain connection with a particular precedent phenomenon, but often have an opaque motivation, which requires the reader or participant in the communicative act to have sufficient knowledge of the literature necessary to decipher the implicit meanings of the text.
