Mössbauer spectroscopy is a technique that detects the emission and absorption of gamma rays in solids. This is done by a resonance approach and, as such, it is similar to NMR spectroscopy in that it is sensitive to the electron effects on the nucleus that result in NMR chemical shifts. In this article, the instrumentation required is summarized.
