The essay explores the nature of talent of the American writer Mark Twain focusing on the paradoxical relations of sorrow and humor. The analyses involves facts of Twain’s biography which serve as the background of his artistic development and prove him being not a “mere” humorist but rather a philosopher who keeps on teaching us of how to live and to think.
