A magnetic system for NMR experiments with field cycling is described that allows a magnetic field of 0.19 T (proton Larmor frequency 8 MHz) with a uniformity of 1·10-5 in 1 cm3 to be switched in 1 msec to values of 1·10-1-5·10-5 T. The working current is 130 A. The long-term stability is 1·10-4. The field is created by a coil whose shape is similar to that of an ellipsoid of revolution. A circuit for stabilization of current switching in the coil is described.
