A statistical model employing a mean-field approach is proposed to calculate the magnetic susceptibility of glasses containing paramagnetic transition metal cations. The model has been verified with experimental data taken on a series of glasses containing manganese(II), d⁵, S = 5/2. (C) 2000 Academic Press.
