N2 - Iron-containingmagneticconcretionsofplanktonicforaminiferaofsandyandaleuritefractionsofsedimentsobtainedfromhydrothermalfieldsoftheMid-AtlanticRidgewerestudied.Thephaseandelementalcomposition,morphology,andmagneticpropertiesofcarbonateforaminiferashellswereanalyzed.Thehysteresischaracteristicsandmicroscopydatasupporttheassumptionthatthemagneticphaseisrepresentedbyironoxidesimilarincompositiontonon-stoichiometricmagnetitewithadmixturesofmanganeseandmagnesium.Thesamplesweremagneticgran-ulometricallyanalyzedaccordingtothemodelofinteractingferrimagneticparti-cles.Thedeterminationsofsuperparamagneticparticlesonthebasisoftheoret-icalmodelingareingoodagreementwiththeexperimentaldataobtainedusingfrequency-dependentsusceptibilityandgranulometrymethods.
