A group of researchers from the Department of Mathematical Linguistics of St. Petersburg State University has been developing scientific and educational web resource dedicated to place names of Ingermanland for several decades. This project began in early 2000s, when database on place names of Ingermanland was created. This database was developed on the base of place names register, collected in the course of a number of toponymic expeditions in St. Petersburg Government and Karelia from 1970s until the present day. In this article we discuss socio-historical features of the multicultural region of Ingermanland and present a linguistic information system with an interactive map, which has been developed by us.
