In a laboratory simulation, the alteration of plant residues of various origin in compost with sod-podzolic soil under optimum conditions is accompanied by rapid mineralization of the C and N of the organic additives and soil. The degree of mineralization depends on the humus supply of the soil, the presence of nonhumified organic matter, and its biochemical composition. -Journal summary
