N2 - The current study is devoted to the peculiarities of English-based art historical discourse. Taking into account the rich cultural diversity of English-speaking countries, the paper is limited to addressing the main features inherent to the texts dealing with Irish pieces. We attempt to trace the impact the speculations on a certain nation’s art have in relation to shaping our ideas about it. Knowledge of these factors promotes better understanding of the elaborate nature of such a notion as discourse. Furthermore, it propels our comprehension of art by focusing on the heterogeneity of its interpretations.
