The temperature dependence of hydrodynamic properties of three new LC comblike poly[(alkoxy-4-ethylphenylbenzoate)(methyl)-siloxanes] with different alkyl spacers between the backbone and the mesogenic side groups, and low-molar-mass compounds as models, analogous to macromolecule side chains has been investigated. Temperature-reversible aggregation of the molecules of these compounds in benzene solution was observed at temperatures below 26° C. This phenomenon was found to depend on the degree of bonding of thermotropic mesogens to the backbone chain and on the aliphatic spacer chain length.
