The higher-order modes of a three-dimensional irregular waveguide layer are investigated. An infinite system of waveguide partial differential equations is solved by the method of asymptotic integration. Horizontal rays are constructed taking into account the interaction of the vertical modes. Reflection from the critical section on a curvilinear trajectory is described. The interval of the 'buildup' with respect to the modes of a planar comparison waveguide is estimated.
