A versatile seven-grade scale is proposed and tabulated for comprehensive assessment of soil degradation. The scale takes into account soil contamination, decerease in humus content, erosion, and recreation-induced damage to accumulative horizons. The proposed criterion of soil degradation is abstract and does not depend on soil genesis and concentration of relevant toxicant. -from Journal translation
