A few airfoil configurations whose curvature is small in the midchord region are considered. The structure of inviscid transonic flow over the airfoils is analyzed. The existence of singular values of the freestream Mach number and the incidence, which trigger off the abrupt restructuring of the flow, is demonstrated. A discontinuous dependence of the lift coefficient on the Mach number is discussed.
