Thermodynamic equations for a nonuniform system with a plane surface layer have been extended to the case of an arbitrarily oriented uniform external electric field. Formulas have been derived to describe the dependence of the surface tension on both the magnitude and orientation of the field. Features of the two-phase equilibrium in this case are discussed.
