Outside the Republic of Korea there has been no research on the perception of the figure of the Russian Tzar Peter the Great by South Koreans. The paper traces philological and cultural aspects of this subject as those serving to discover some of its specifics. A preliminary list of text categories to be analyzed in relation with it is suggested.
