This paper deals with the problem of social inclusion of senior citizens and the role of the ICT in this prices. Modern society is marked by global processes of ageing of population and IT and computer development. But it is the elderly people who are the least accustomed to ICT use. This article presents the results of the research on pensioners’ ICT usage practices which are considered as “practices of adaptation” that help senior citizens to integrate to the modern society, and some follow-up steps. We have compared the experience of five countries (Russia, Lithuania, Sweden, Denmark and Belarus) in ICT training of the elderly and their use of new skills.
The research showed that 58% of respondents have computers at home. The elderly usually use Internet for search information (38%), reading the news (22%), corresponding with friends (33%), reading books and periodical (18%), communication via Skype (14%).
