Hydrodynamic (velocity sedimentation, translational diffusion, viscometry) and electrooptic (the Kerr effect) properties of poly(2,6-dimethyl-p-phenylene oxide) and its complex with C60 fullerene in benzene were studied. The mass, shape, and size of particles of the C60-poly(2,6-dimethyl-p-phenylene oxide) complex were determined. The data obtained were compared with corresponding characteristics of macromolecules of this polymer. The observed difference in the Kerr constant between the polymer and the complex was shown to correlate with the results of hydrodynamic studies, which indicate the restructuring effect of the fullerene molecule in the C60-poly(2,6-dimethyl-n-phenylene oxide) complex.
