N2 - Ethical evaluations occupy important place in the evaluative linguistic view of the world describing a human in his attitude to “the Stranger” and to the surrounding world and being reflected in numerous lexical and phraseological nominations. The article is dealing with the evaluating phraseologisms which form the image of the “liar” in Romance languages (Spanish, Italian, French and Portuguese) and in Russian language.Fourphraseosemantic subgroups characterizing the image of the person evading the truth with the different intentions are identified here: 1) liar, deceiver, 2) braggart, 3) hypocrite, 4) flatterer. The analysis of the phraseological material leads to the conclusion that the image of the “liar” is being created on the base of different semantic fields revealing the general and the private in the phraseology of the exploring languages.
