Reactions of 3-iodopyridine with [BiX 6 ] 3− solutions in HX (X = Cl, Br) results in chloro- and bromobismuthate complexes (3-IPyH) 2 {[BiCl 5 ]}·H 2 O (1) and (3-IPyH) 4 [Bi 2 Br 10 ]·2H 2 O. In both cases, halogen⋯halogen contacts play important role in formation of crystal packing; energies of these interactions were estimated by theoretical methods.
