N2 - In the period of years 1880 – 1920 the Revival of French musical culture is linked with the works and musical and social activities by Vincent d’Indy (1853–1931), a well-known composer, conductor, theoretician and professor of music. Prevailing ethical and religious aspect is a distinctive feature of evolution of his French musical drama. In cultural domain of France, the mystery play Le martyre de Saint Sébastien (1911) precedes La légende de Saint Christophe by d’Indy (1920). This is the first time the particularities of musical dramaturgy in large-scale compositions for musical theatre by V. d’Indy have been treated in the light of Christian tradition.
