A current pulse which arises from interaction of a short γ-quantum pulse with an extended absorbing region and travels in vacuum with a velocity greater than that of light is calculated by the numerical simulation method. Features of the electromagnetic field excited by it and its resemblance to the Vavilov - Cherenkov radiation are discussed within the framework of the linear current model.
