Plasma jets were studied for usage in plasma-assisted combustion in the supersonic channel, according to the method of Takita. The electrochemical plasma torch was evaluated as a novel promising tool to initiate and support combustion. It was able to ignite the propane/butane mixture at a 200-m/s flow speed, and its thermal output was not significant in comparison with the theoretical thermal power of the combustor. The reasons for ignition failure at supersonic flow velocity are discussed.
