Experiments were carried out to find the relation between the extinction of visible light by aerosol soot particles and its structural parameters. Extinction and angular scattering diagram were measured in the polar nephelometer directly in the aerosol flow. Structure effect was studied while keeping chemical composition and refractive indexes unchanged. Simultaneously with optical measurements, the particles were sampled for transmission electron microscope viewing. Overall, an anomalous behavior of extinction was discovered.
